What’s wrong with the world today?

Well, let’s focus on today. What’s wrong today? What’s wrong this time? Ugh, aren’t you ever satisfied? No, really. Seriously. Are you satisfied? Do you know how to satisfy your own needs? Do you know how to cultivate satisfaction in yourself? Because nobody will help you with that. They’re all too busy telling you what’s wrong with the world. The goal is to broaden your vision so far that you can’t see your own life before your own eyes. Change the question. Limit the scope: What is wrong with your world? What things are you struggling with? Never mind the politics and the internet memes and the things they say you ought to worry about. You’re just a tiny blip in the whole universe. You’re just a single point of attention in an infinite awareness. It’s not your job to see, or know, or fix everything! Who told you that?

As you go about your day, trying to remind yourself that you don’t have to be somebody who is perfect, omnipotent, omniscient, all-curing, all-fixing, etcetera etcetera, don’t forget to check if you’re applying it the right way round. You can also recognize when somebody else is under that spell. There are people out there who think they can fix the world by bullying other people out of their opinions. Including you. They’ll pressure you into caring about their cause. “Somebody is wrong, I have to fix their opinions!”. No you don’t. Everybody has to fix their own opinions. Until they match reality. And boy, that’ll be enough of a challenge, let me tell you.

One sure fire way that you’re wrong about something is that you’re angry, upset or miserable. The best way to check what you’re wrong about, and what needs fixing in your life, is to see what makes your blood boil, what makes the despair pop up. Because, you see, if you knew what was right and what was wrong, and you’d act by that knowledge, then you wouldn’t need to despair. Everything that is wrong with the world, is a result of violating reality’s rules. And since your body is the most real thing there is to you, let that reality give you feedback. Anger, despair, fear, all these are signals that you are not playing by the rules. Figure out the actual, real rules, you know the ones that help you to stop making yourself miserable, and your life will improve so much that you wouldn’t have to fix other people. You’d learn that they can fix themselves, just like you did, and that no amount of badgering them will actually get them to change. You’re imperfect, impotent, unknowing, you will fail to cure anyone but yourself, you will fail to fix anyone’s life but your own.

Stop the scope creep.
