Suppose God went into therapy. There, he’d shed many a tear, I’m sure.
“And then I warned them, not to do that thing. You know? Doing that thing is bad, it’s against the rules of the world I made. And they went and did the thing anyway. And I warned them again, I warned them multiple times. Don’t do it, something bad will happen. And you know what happened?”
Therapist: “What happened?”
“They persisted in doing the thing. And when something bad happened they blamed me for it! I mean, I tried to warn them, I tried to explain to them how the world I created worked, but they just won’t listen! I’m just so exhausted. I’m giving them all the rules to play by, I’ve told them multiple times, and they still choose to muck it up and blame me when it all goes arse up”. *cries into his hanky*
Therapist: “And how does that make you feel?”
“Well, I thought, if y’all won’t listen to me, maybe I ought to send someone down there to explain things to you. I mean, I’m an engineer, I build stuff you know. I’m not a people person. I figured all I have to do is get someone down there to explain it to them properly. Train them, sort of. How it all works, and which buttons to press in what order to get good results, you know… So I figured I’d send someone down. He’d be the best. He’d be one of them. He’d have the answers, he could explain stuff to them in a way they’d understand.”
Therapist, apprehensively: “And what did they do?”
“They crucified him!!!!” *starts bawling*
Whenever I’m having an awful day, and things from the past bother me, and mistakes I’ve made, and mistakes other people have made and when I’m generally just in a foul mood… My husband’s eyes light up as he is about to remind me of the thing that’ll often cheer me up. “What did you expect? God sent us the perfect man, and we crucified him.”
Many people are angry with the Bible and the Church. Someone once said to me “People do awful stuff in the Bible!”. Er… yeah, because the Bible shows you what people can be like. The Bible isn’t a fairy tale. It’s a “Here’s all the problems of the world, you’re not wrong, they’re there. These are humanity’s problems.”-book.
And when God sent us his best man, we crucified him.
What doesn’t kill you gives you a dark sense of humor.
