A change of clothes

Here’s a neat psychological trick. When you wear different clothes, your mindset subtly changes. If you have trouble “switching off” when you get home from work, it might be time to separate your clothes into “for work” and “not for work”. If you’re lucky, you have a job with a uniform or special work clothes. In that case, you’ll probably automatically feel when you get home that you want to get out of these “work clothes”. It’s more than putting on a clean set. It signals that the work day is over. In office jobs, you might wear the same clothes all day, until after dinner and until you get to bed. The risk is that there is never a sharp cutoff point for when you are off from work and when you’re not. Driving home doesn’t cut it for some people. But changing clothes, that can really help. I wear pants for my day job, and switch into a dress when I get home. The work day is over. My mind stops going over the day’s events pretty quickly.
